Head of Gym Services / Personal Trainer

Helen is the first point of contact for members with any queries related to using the gym.
Helen is a Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) Level 3 Advanced Personal Trainer and also an England Athletics qualified Running Coach, specialising in off-track running 5k and upwards. In addition she has recently acquired the Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral which qualifies her to accept GP referrals for common conditions such as Hypertension, Obesity, Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, Osteoporosis and Arthritis as well as providing a more comprehensive specialist service to non-referred clients who suffer from these conditions.
Helen's particular training interest is looking at biomechanics; the body's ability to work through a full range of motion bringing in balance and posture, looking at how the client works mechanically during the performance of an exercise and the various compensations that can occur. Often the body is merely compensating for intrinsic biomechanical faults during functional tasks or sport and the more we repeat those tasks or movements the risk of injury increases. She loves helping clients finding muscles they didn't even know existed!
Helen's personal sport is distance running and you will often see her running around the locality. Her favourite distance is the marathon and she runs with local club, Bearbrook Running Club. Believe it or not, not everyone can run efficiently (although they think they can!). Her own personal journey has shown her that making tweaks to your technique and being able to activate the correct muscles will result in less power loss and less injury. In addition to this having a training plan that reflects your own training ability and lifestyle is paramount in making it to the start line.
Helen also enjoys working with those simply looking to keep fit or lose weight with the main aim that you should enjoy your gym sessions!

"Whether a full-time performance player or someone with a fat-loss target, the fundamentals are broadly similar. It is important to get to know the person and what works for them and then, using a multi-faceted approach, help them towards their goals in a fun, inspiring and challenging way."

As a personal trainer my goal is to help you exceed yours. I understand those goals will be unique to you, and you will have your own reason behind wanting to approach a personal trainer to help you get there. That's why I would like to get to know you, your story and your goals both in and out of the gym, because although I could set you a quick fix programme, to me your health and fitness journey is about longevity, sustainability and continual progress. So through 1-2-1 coaching, a tailored programme and bespoke sessions together we can get you beyond where you imagined and help you realise your own unique potential. I also run 5 of the group classes here which include a mix of HIIT, bootcamp, circuit and weight-based training with a choice of morning and evening sessions. Not only are these designed to improve your strength and endurance but the community aspect is something you won't get elsewhere. A selection of my clients bundle their personal training with classes, which offers them real variety to their training. Why not start your journey today with a free consultation? Challenge yourself, transform yourself. Hope to see you soon!

After leaving my working career in the City as a Merchant Banker, I took time out to re-train and completed a Diploma in Personal Training and Sports Therapy and then became a fully qualified Personal Trainer & Sports Therapist. I hold a First Aid/CPR certificate and am fully insured in all aspects of public liability. I am also a fully qualified cricket and hockey coach albeit now retired playing both sports due to a serious back injury. With continuous professional development a priority, I continue to attend advanced training courses, events, seminars and conferences to keep up with the latest developments in the health and fitness industry. After graduating I set up my own business, Genesis BodyCare in 1999. I have now notched up more than 20,000 hours of one-to-one personal fitness training sessions with many clients of varying ages, from 8 to 84 and various fitness levels. This adds up to lots of major achievements and much hard work, by many clients over the last 18 years. ‘If your mind can believe, the body can achieve’. My personal training philosophy goes beyond simply going through the motions and counting reps. It is about making a decision to change your life and taking the necessary steps to make it happen. I take a whole body approach so that my clients will see and feel the personal training benefits. With motivation, dedication and education you can do it and I can help! Changing your life is a journey and I will be there to support you all the way!!!
