Rusty Rackets & Beginners
Rusty Rackets & Beginners
“Give Tennis a Go” – why not become a GTAG member? If you’re new to tennis or would like to improve your skills with similar level players, then you’ll find a warm welcome at Halton. The perfect way to start is with a Rusty Rackets session – it’ll help you get more out of your game.
Concern about being good enough to join a tennis club or having been on the receiving end of a poor experience at school are often mentioned as the main reasons people are worried about taking up the game of tennis. Some 15 years ago here at Halton we took on the challenge to solve this and provide a safe, fun experience – so we invented ‘rusties’. Since then we have welcomed and encouraged hundreds of people to take up the game. It’s simply the best way to start or restart playing tennis. You can come to the twice weekly sessions free within your Full or GTAG membership as well as enjoy casual play with other members. GTAG membership also benefits from being cheaper than full membership.
Meeting new friends and enjoying a coach-led fun session hitting loads of balls is our mantra – so why not become a GTAG member and give it a go!
To become a GTAG member please fill out our membership form and return it to the office.
For all enquiries or to book a visit please contact the office.

"Great fun, great people, great coaching...not only the highlight of my tennis week but the highlight of my week full stop!"

Tennis for the Community
Tennis for the Community
Our Welcome to Halton community sessions are FREE and part of our wish to help those in the local community recover from the chaos that the pandemic has caused in so many people’s lives through some physical wellbeing and social fun.
Following on from our very popular sessions during summer 2022, we will be running them again next year, from April to July 2023 on Mondays 9.30-10.30.
The sessions are social, outdoors (weather permitting), court-based physical activity led by our coaches. No prior experience is needed and all equipment is provided. These sessions are open to adults of all ages and abilities. Our cafe is open after each session to enjoy a coffee, cake or some lunch.
Our community sessions are all about improving physical and mental wellbeing and having fun at the same time.
If you’d like to come along please first contact the office and we’ll see you on court soon!

"I haven't picked up a racket since I was 14. The coaches are all very friendly and encouraging, they make each session unique and fun with a mix of different challenges and games. I've improved my fitness and confidence, met a great group of new friends to have coffee with after and am really enjoying myself. If you have thoughts holding you back, I highly recommend just giving it a go. I have loved every second!"

RAF Tennis
RAF tennis
Halton has been the home to Royal Air Force Tennis since 1929. In 1983 the RAF Halton Tennis Club began a partnership with Halton Village Lawn Tennis Club, the success of which led to formal partnership in 2001, culminating in the thriving club we know today.
The RAF LTA is proud to offer Royal Air Force Regular and Reserve personnel the opportunity to play tennis at Halton, no matter what ability, with events throughout the season catering for all standards.
All serving members and their families are welcome to join the tennis centre/gym and enjoy the facilities and organised tennis activities on offer.
Contact Gill Roe on 07922 012443 for RAF membership rates.

Events
Whether you aspire to represent the RAF or even the UK Armed Forces, or simply to enjoy your time on court, RAF events have something for everyone; the Summer and Winter Championships has a variety of competitions plus daily coaching activities and social events, Tennis for All days provide coaching and fun matchplay, and the early season Novices Tournament and end of season Team Tennis Tournament give players a chance to compete with players of similar ability in a relaxed environment.
Performance Tennis
The RAF competes annually against the Royal Navy and Army at the Inter-Services, with the ‘A’ tournament played on the grass at Wimbledon, and ‘B’ tournament played at a Service venue (Halton for RAF, Aldershot for Army and Portsmouth for Royal Navy). Performance players also get to play prestigious fixtures against Wimbledon AELTC, Surbiton LTC and The Hurlingham Club.
The Ladies’ and Men’s Captains like to talk with players throughout the season about their progress to being selected for either the A or B Squad, and talented players will have the opportunity to join the Development Squad to help them achieve their maximum potential.
Travel
RAF Tennis regularly travels abroad to train and compete. Recent years have seen the Performance Teams compete against NATO allies in Holland, Belgium and Sardinia as well as host our NATO compatriots at Halton. Performance Teams have also trained at the world famous IMG Bollettieri Academy in Florida and on the grass of the Stuttgart Open.
In addition, the RAF LTA organises overseas visits for players of all standards, prioritising those most committed to playing and organising, such as a visit to Dubai where the RAF played with Wimbledon champ Marion Bartoli and played a big part in setting a then world record.
"Halton Tennis Centre has always been the spiritual home of Royal Air Force Tennis - an ongoing association we are very proud of."
— Sqn Ldr Damian Gange

Box leagues
“Box leagues have revolutionised our members’ matchplay – as a result our teams in the leagues are far stronger and the players more competitive.” Mike James, Director of Tennis
Started in 2011, the box leagues have brought a completely new dimension to traditional club tennis and have really caught the imagination of many members who want more competitive tennis. It’s also had an added benefit for members to meet others that they perhaps wouldn’t normally come across in club sessions.
We run singles and doubles box league matches (similar to ladders) all year round for all members who want additional fun and competitive tennis in a relaxed club environment. Join more than 140 players who take part in our box leagues.
